How does Habitat work?
How does Habitat work?
Habitat builds new homes for low income, first time homeowners.
A $500 down payment for all homes is required by the house-buying family, but this can be made in monthly payment.
The chosen family buys the house from Habitat at 0% interest. The mortgage can last anywhere from 10 to 30 years, depending on the family's ability to pay. Monthly payments average around $200 plus taxes and insurance.
All mortgage payments are used to offset costs for other Habitat families. The purchase price for each home is determined by the amount of donated materials and labor used on each project and the projected value of the home.
